1. Background:
Around 4000 uprooted Bengali families were accommodated in the CR Park by this Association; let us appreciate the foresight, dedication of those founding fathers of the Association.. This and future generations should never forget their contribution. Sh. Subodh Gopal Basumallik ( the first President of the Association and the the then Vice- Chairman-DDA),Sh. Bimal Bhusan Chakraborty ( the first Secretary), Late Ranadhir Chandra Sharma Sarkar ( Ex UPSC Chairman and Ex. Secretary- ministry of Law ),Late Shyamaprasanna Senverma (Ex Chief Election Commissioner), Late Arun Kumar Roy ( Ex Finance Sectretary ) are a few names whose lifetime contribution towards building this settlement now called Chitta Ranjan Park. will always be remembered.
· Dream of Chitta Ranjan Park was realized for “displaced persons from East Pakistan who are already residing in Delhi and are gainfully employed in the capital”. In the first phase aroud 2200 families got land and after about 10 years 714 families were allotted land with the intervention of present foreign minister Sh. Pronab Mukherjee and Smt Monika Das, Ex MP.Today about 2000 Bengali families are residing in CR Park as tenants and guest to relations.
· CR Park is called “Mini Bengal” as the continuity of nurturing Bengali tradition and culture is being maintained through two generations by now; credit goes to Chitta Ranjan Memorial Society, Kali mandir Society, Bangiya Samaj,Bipin Chandra Pal memorial, Purbosree Mahila Samity, etc. and numerous learned and enthusiast residents.
